So, this guy goes out on the yard, gets surrounded by a large group of guys, and is beaten, stripped down to his boxers, and forced to enter protective custody (or “check in” as we call it).
This other guy, just some random white guy, was raped yesterday while the rest of the block was at lunch. At least three of the guys I met at Madison have confessed to me that their cellies have extorted them for sex.
One guy, Manfred von Something (and yes, I made that name up), had his cellie attempt to rape him by choking him half to death with a belt while Manfred was sleeping. Two more guys from Madison have been “turned out” and are owned by someone else.
On the way to breakfast one morning, I saw a guy getting stomped into paste. The four or so guys doing the stomping had him cornered in the stairwell less than ten feet from the COs, who were distracted by the rest of the block going to chow.
Another time, this group of guys invaded some random dude’s cell, beat him senseless, tied him up, and stuffed him under his bed. On the way out, they smashed everything in the cell.
A few days ago, the COs locked two guys in the cell next to us and let them fight for almost ten minutes. I could hear the loser screaming and begging for help from the COs standing outside his door for at least half that time.
There have been three stabbings on the yard that I personally am aware of, forcing us to go through a metal detector on the way out to the yard…well, on the day of the stabbing anyway.
On the 3rd range in my block alone, there have been almost thirty cells robbed, ten or so fights, three stabbings, and God knows how many other such evil things.
Two weeks or so ago, they had to haul five guys out of here for drinking, and then had to call in a bunch of COs to beat the snot out of them with their batons because the drunken inmates decided to resist. One guy was hauled out in a wheelchair.
One of the guys I met at Madison had a bunch of guys run into his cell, knock him out, and steal all of his and his cellie’s stuff, and when he later tried to get it all back, ended up being extorted for even more stuff instead.
Though there have been numerous attempts, I remain unviolated and unextorted (though one extortion attempt came close), but I am becoming quite used to the casual violence and brutality among the inmates.
